🪖 #2 Why Do BTS Members had to Join the Military?🎖️

Hello everyone,

all BTS members are back again from their military service! I cannot wait to meet them again. Let’s take a look why BTS had to go to the army.

Why Do BTS Members had to Join the Military? 🇰🇷💪

So, you probably heard that BTS members were going to join the military… and your heart might have skipped a beat and nervous, right? 😅 Many ARMYs were wondering, “Why do they have to go?” Let’s break it down and talk about South Korea’s military system and why BTS can’t skip it—even though they’re global superstars.

🪖 Mandatory Military Service in South Korea

In South Korea, all men over the age of 18 are required to serve in the military. Yep, even BTS. 😬 Because Korea is officially still at war with North Korea and in a state of armistice. It’s a legal obligation, and the rules are pretty strict.

  • Types of Service: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or alternative public service
  • Duration: About 18–21 months, depending on the branch

Basically, no matter how famous or busy you are, if you’re a Korean male, you gotta do it. Even superstars like BTS aren’t exempt. Think of it as a “citizen duty” that everyone has to fulfill at some point in their lives. 🇰🇷

However, there are some exceptional cases, like if a football player or athlete gets a gold medal or someone makes the country proud, then there is a special case to skip to join the military service. It was very pity that BTS couldn’t get this choice.

🎤 BTS and Military Service

Since BTS is world-famous, people often wonder if they can get special treatment. Here’s the deal:

  • They can delay enlistment a bit because of their contributions to spreading Korean culture globally 🌏
  • Permanent exemption? Nope. The law doesn’t allow it
  • So, eventually, all members will serve in the military

This is why fans were curious—and a little nervous—about when each member will enlist. Will it affect their music? Their tours? How long will the break be? These questions are totally normal for ARMYs. 😢 But remember, the law applies to everyone, even idols.

💪 More Than Just a Duty

Military service isn’t just a “must-do” task—it’s also about responsibility and personal growth. In South Korea, serving in the military carries both social and personal significance:

  • National Security: Korea is in a geopolitically tense region, so military service is taken very seriously
  • Social Responsibility: Serving isn’t just for you—it’s for your country and community
  • Personal Growth: The training is tough, yes, but it teaches discipline, teamwork, leadership, and resilience

For BTS, this experience might be challenging, but it’s also an opportunity to grow. Many fans hope that when they return, the members will be even stronger, healthier, and ready to create amazing music again. 🎶

🕒 What Fan Can Expect during the Military Service

Yeah, it’s sad that BTS took a break. Although they can not take a real break, but it would be hard to see them. But this time allows them to rest, recharge, and come back even better. Not only BTS but every Korean Boy groups have to join the Military. While they’re away, the Fans can do:

  • Enjoy solo projects or individual activities
  • Support them through social media and fan events
  • Look forward to their comeback with new albums, performances, and stories

Even though the wait might be hard, this “pause” is temporary. they have always found ways to connect with fans, and they’ll continue to do so even during military service. 💖 Two years will have gone very fast hopefully!

⚖️ Gender Debate & Social Issues

Here’s where it gets more interesting. Military service in South Korea only applies to men, which has led to ongoing debates about gender equality. Many people argue that it’s unfair for only men to serve, sparking discussions around gender discrimination, feminism, and social tensions between men and women. Some voices even say women should serve too like in Israel and Denmark, so the responsibility is shared equally. These debates show that BTS’s military service is not just about them—it’s part of a bigger societal conversation.

❤️ Conclusion

So why do BTS members had to join the military? It’s simple: it’s the law in South Korea, and every male citizen must fulfill this duty. But it’s not just about obligation—it’s also a time for growth, responsibility, and preparing for a strong comeback. ARMYs, hang tight—they’ll be back, stronger than ever! 💪🎵

As all the members are back now, I hope that BTS can release some very nice music and go on a concert tour again even in Europe! I cannot wait to listen their brand new music again. One of my friends is a huge fan of BTS and I would like to meet them again!
